When I break this game down in this NFL week 4 matchup, New England is an automatic under play all year when the total is 40+ and Jacoby Brissett is the quarterback. The Patriots have a solid, playoff-type defense. Their offense leaves a lot to be desired, with absolutely no explosive playmakers. They want to rely on Rhamondre Stevenson on the ground as much as possible. Jacoby Brissett will not throw downfield, but what’s even better is that he does not make mistakes. Brissett protects the ball, forcing opponents to go the full length of the field against their solid defense, which chews up the clock.
The 49ers can be explosive, but without left tackle Trent Williams, this team is limited. Williams is questionable, Deebo Samuel is also questionable, and McCaffrey is still out. The 49ers are still fine with Mason at running back and Mr. Jauan Jennings picking up the slack at wide receiver. Tight end George Kittle also remains questionable. Brock Purdy will not be taking as many shots downfield in this game. The 49ers’ defense will manhandle this Patriots offense. We will be safe even if the 49ers put up 24 points in this spot. I’m looking for a 24-3 type game, which would cover the spread of 10. The better option in this game is the under 40.5.
