West Ham United weighing up move for Hertha BSC sensation Ibrahim Maza

West Ham United are competing with several clubs to sign Hertha BSC starlet Ibrahim Maza during this summer transfer window.

Ibrahim Maza

Ibrahim Maza, 18, has had a tough 2023/24 season due to a meniscus injury suffered in the summer of 2023. He was out of action until February of 2024, but the attacking midfielder worked his way into Hertha BSC’s first XI upon his return. The Berlin-born talent racked up 13 league appearances for Hertha, registering a goal and two assists in the German second division.

The teenage prodigy has attracted interest mostly from England and Germany, with Brentford, Leicester City, RB Leipzig, Union Berlin and Augsburg all interested in him. West Ham United have reportedly sent scouts to watch Ibrahim Maza on several occasions this year as they consider making a summer move for him.

Hertha Berlin are bracing themselves for offers for Maza. They are open to selling the exciting talent this summer and expect the Premier League clubs to test their resolve very soon with offers in the region of €10m. However, the German outfit are yet to slap a price tag on the creative midfielder’s head.

West Ham calling for Ibrahim Maza?

It is no secret that West Ham are shifting to an entirely different transfer strategy and recruitment, with more emphasis expected to be given to signing young talents rather than experienced players under new manager Julen Lopetegui. The club, led by technical director Tim Steidten, has been busy with their transfer dealings.

The Irons completed the first summer signing in the form of highly-rated Brazilian teenager Luis Guilherme, who has completed a switch to the London Stadium in a £25.5m deal from Palmeiras. They are wasting no more time and have switched their attention towards bringing in Ibrahim Maza from Hertha Berlin.

Maza would be a smart fit in Julen Lopetegui’s side, adding creativity, energy and flair in the final third of the pitch. The teenager has shown flashes of potential in the German second division, and he could become a key long-term asset for West Ham if they manage to get a deal done.

Hertha are resigned to losing their starlet in this transfer window. It will be interesting to see if the Hammers can beat other interested clubs to Maza’s signature, as Lopetegui plans to rebuild the squad.
