Last big week of training for the Cape Town marathon! Here’s my recap of marathon training and life in London as an American!
Monday: Rainy solo run commute + office 5k for 7.75 miles total.
Tuesday: Train to the office (with 1 mile bonus jog with backpack), then 3×2 miles progressively quicker for 11.2 miles total before work.
We went to see Vance Joy (an Australian singer) at Wembley Arena (not Wembley Stadium) after work, which was chill but good. It was much easier getting home after this gig than Taylor Swift! I was home and in bed right around 10 pm.
Wednesday: Hilly recovery run around Hampstead Heath, stopped to meet a beautiful falcon outside Highgate Cemetery who was there for “pigeon control!”
Heartcore Pilates reformer after work.
Thursday: Track Thursday! Warm-up, 12×400 with 400m jog in between for 9 miles total before work.
Sadly, my iphone 12 died (there was a hole in the front screen which allowed water to get into it) and I had to buy a new phone; they are more expensive here than in the U.S.! I wish I could have waited to buy it until the next time we were back in the states… And then of course, there’s all the hassle of setting everything up on the new one. Tedious! It felt like the whole week was dealing with phone issues. Its wild how much we rely on our phones for so many things these days!
Friday: 7.8 mile solo run before work, Heartcore pilates after work.
Saturday: 20.5 mile run from Hampstead all the way to Richmond (to the west, of Ted Lasso fame.) It was a nice group of Mornington Chasers, 8 of us to start with 4 going the full 20.
It was fun to do a totally new-to-me route, but that meant we had a long train ride back to Hampstead. I was so ready to be home and in a warm shower!
The route was mostly along the Thames through Battersea to Wandsworth to Putney to Richmond, where a large part of the Thames path becomes a bridle path. Quite muddy too! But there were lots of crew teams out on the Thames, which was neat.
Sunday: 7 mile run with Ruth; Dustin was up earlier and out the door as he went to the Vikings/Jets (NFL) game at the Tottenham Spurs stadium with some friends. American football in London!
Summary: 2 pilates classes, and a lot of miles- 70 to be exact.
Now it is time for a signficant taper. Woo-hoo!
And here’s a cute pic to close the post of Ruth giving Matilda a kiss!
These little devils worked together this week to tear into an Amazon package full of dog treats…of course, both of them were dealing with some tummy trouble after eating way too many at once. Argh!
