Manchester United and Paul Pogba ended their second relationship in the summer of 2022 with the Frenchman leaving Old Trafford at the end of his contact.
Pogba moved to Juventus but only played two competitive games for the Italian giants before being banned from the sport after failing a drugs test for elevated levels of testosterone.
The 31-year-old was set to serve a four year ban but has seen that reduced and is now cleared to play again from March 2025, shortening the enforced absence to 18 months.
In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Pogba has opened up on his return to the game and lifted the lid on subjects from his turbulent period at United.
Pogba’s commitment to the cause regularly came under question during his time at Old Trafford with accusations of him dancing in the changing room during United’s struggles, alongside Jesse Lingard, coming from from former teammates.
The Frenchman used his time with Sky to deny the claims and set the record straight surrounding the issue.
“I heard Wayne Rooney say that we lost a game and me and Jesse were dancing in the changing room.
“You always need a witness, OK? If someone can confirm what Rooney said, I will accept it. If there is not, it is not true. Lingard never confirmed that because I am a very bad loser and I respect the club,” said Pogba.
Rio Ferdinand let slip a conversation with Rooney in which United’s record goal scorer said the culture had changed at the club and Pogba was part of the new wave of player profile at Old Trafford.
“I rang Wazza (Wayne Rooney) when I saw Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard dancing on Instagram when we were sixth in the league and said, “What’s going on here? How are you allowing this?” And he said you can’t say nothing man, it’s not the same anymore,” claimed Ferdinand.
Pogba cited Rooney’s standing at the club and argued he would have put an end to any such actions, if they had any substance.
“Wayne Rooney, a legend of the club, sitting there and not saying anything. Do you think that matches?” he said.
With a return to the game imminent, Pogba’s future is now up for debate with Juventus apparently ready to cut ties with the World Cup winner.
A return to the French league to link-up with ex-United teammate Mason Greenwood has emerged as a potential destination for a player who, despite possessing bags of ability, never quite left the mark on the game that he could have.
