Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided an update on the injuries sustained by Gabriel Magalhaes and Jurrien Timber following the 2-2 Premier League draw against Liverpool.
The Gunners had a fine start to the Premier League game with Bukayo Saka scoring early, but they soon conceded from a Virgil van Dijk header.
Mikel Merino put them in front before the half-time interval, but the Reds capitalised on defensive injuries to equalise through Mohamed Salah.
Gabriel was taken off the field in the 54th minute with a possible knee issue while Timber lasted for just 76 minutes before withdrawing from the game.
Speaking after the high-scoring stalemate, Arteta said: “I think we’ve done everything we could to accelerate that process. He [Timber] was so willing.”
“We gave ourselves the chance to compete. I don’t know the extent of the injury if there is one. The same with big Gabi. Continue to go.”
Arsenal ended the league match with Myles Lewis-Skelly, Jakub Kiwior, Ben White and Thomas Partey as their four-man defence.
William Saliba is expected to return after his domestic suspension, but the club should know more about the condition of Gabriel and Timber soon.
Riccardo Calafiori also picked up a knee injury against Shakhtar while Takehiro Tomiyasu has a same concern. Arsenal have had a wretched luck this campaign with plenty of defensive players sidelined.
