Manchester United are growing increasingly confident that Jadon Sancho will be offloaded this summer.
Having been loaned out to Borussia Dortmund last season following his fallout with Man United manager Erik ten Hag, Sancho’s place in the team still appears far from guaranteed despite patching things up with his manager.
While he appeared in United’s pre-season friendlies in the United States, Sancho was omitted from Ten Hag’s squad for the Premier League opening match against Fulham last weekend.
Exclusion from the squad aside, Sancho’s days at United appear to be numbered given the latest media reports surrounding his potential transfer out of Old Trafford.
Last week, The Peoples Person relayed that Chelsea are expected to make a move for Sancho.
In a report released this morning, The Athletic claimed that a deal could indeed be under way shortly.
“Sancho is a live situation, with United asking for £40 million,” the article read. “But finding a club to meet his wages is an issue.”
“PSG have been consistently linked but Sancho has not been part of their plans so far this summer. Some at United sense Chelsea may make an approach.”
According to reports, PSG have long maintained an interest in Sancho, with the Parisian club reportedly agreeing personal terms with the winger.
Furthermore, Sancho allegedly expressed his desire to join PSG due to not being part of Ten Hag’s plans for United.
Still, there is also a chance that the race for Sancho could heat up even further, with Borussia Dortmund even reportedly considering a move for the English winger after his impactful loan at the club last season.
Should some at United have a genuine belief that Chelsea will pounce on Sancho, or that a bidding war could develop, the club may even be able to gain more than the mooted £40 million asking price for the winger that The Athletic claimed.
This would not only allow United to recover some of the funds spent on Sancho in 2021 while also freeing up their wage bill to accommodate the club’s string of new signings this summer.
