Liverpool and Manchester United monitoring Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton

Liverpool and Manchester United are among a few Premier League clubs interested in Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton.

Adam Wharton

The England youth international, 20, only completed a £22.5million transfer to Selhurst Park from Blackburn Rovers during the January transfer window. He has turned heads across Europe with his impressive performances in the Premier League. Wharton has played a huge role in Crystal Palace’s resurgence under new boss Oliver Glasner, with the south London side beating Liverpool, Newcastle United and Manchester United since April.

Adam Wharton’s impact at Crystal Palace has been stunning, but Premier League rivals are now contemplating a potential bid during the summer transfer window. Liverpool and Manchester United have been reportedly continuing to keep tabs on the 20-year-old’s midfielder progress. Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Wharton, while there is also interest from European clubs Juventus, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.

Liverpool, Man United consider submitting proposals for Adam Wharton

Even though Liverpool splashed a lot of cash on four midfielders last summer, it still feels like they might invest in another midfield talent during the forthcoming transfer window. Considering how the Reds’ season has panned out, incoming new manager Arne Slot may think of adding another central midfielder to the ranks.

When it comes to exciting young midfielders in the Premier League right now, few can compare to Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton. He has been the beating heart of a Palace side now bang in form, registering three assists in 15 Premier League appearances. The youngster’s performances have been so good that even England manager Gareth Southgate has taken note of his remarkable impact in recent weeks and Wharton could be part of their pre-Euro 2024 preparations.

Meanwhile, Manchester United could be in for a massive midfield clearout in the summer after a woeful campaign, with the futures of Casemiro, Sofyan Amrabat and Christian Eriksen up in the air. The club’s decision to splash £70 million on Casemiro and offer him a lucrative wage packet in the summer of 2022 has come under intense scrutiny as the Brazilian midfielder’s performances have gone from bad to worse in recent weeks and months, while Eriksen’s legs to operate in the fast-paced and physical Premier League seems to have gone.

Thus, the Red Devils could do well by investing in a dynamic young midfielder, and Wharton fits that profile perfectly. The England under-21 international could potentially form a strong partnership with Kobbie Mainoo in the middle of the park, adding much-needed energy and steel to the Man United side.

Crystal Palace are reluctant to cash in on Wharton but chairman Steve Parish would find it challenging to reject lucrative offers for a player who arrived only six months ago from the Championship.
