Klopp is not averse to the Europa League: Liverpool will take what we can get

Despite a marked improvement in the last few matches, Liverpool are still seven points adrift of Champions League qualification. In fact, their current seventh place would not even give them access to the UEFA Conference League.

Jurgen Klopp was asked about the possibility of playing in the Europa League next season, a position currently occupied by their next opponents, Tottenham.

“We’ll take what we can get,” the Reds boss said.

Liverpool’s season aims have changed

Even so, Klopp accepts that this is not a target they had in mind in August 2022.

“At the start of the season we didn’t think qualifying for the Europa League was fantastic, but the season has taken us this way and that’s fine,” he added.

The truth is that the Merseysiders’ remaining fixture list is fairly kind and they are coming off the back of a good run of results. However, the point-tally of Manchester United and Newcastle suggest that the Champions League is going to be difficult to reach.
