Following a hugely successful stint with the national team of Germany, Gordon Herbert is looking for more of the same as the head coach of FC Bayern Munich.

Herbert, 65, talked about his goals in a press conference following team practice in BMW Park on Monday.

“We want to be more aggressive and play faster, attacking basketball. We want to control the tempo in the half-court,” he mentioned.

Behind a similar approach to coaching Germany, Herbert celebrated gold in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, besides also winning bronze in the 2022 EuroBasket and ranking fourth in the 2024 Olympic Games.

Previously serving as a head coach in the top tier of European basketball generated a 25-29 W-L tally with the Opel Skyliners, Elan Bearnais Pau-Orthez, and Aris TT Bank. He led the French and Greek sides to the Top 16 in 2006-07 and 2007-08, respectively. Sixteen years forward, the next goal is reaching the Final Four.

“I know from experience that you can make players more responsible if they set the goals and accept them,” he revealed upcoming discussions after moving the training camp from Germany to Slovenia over the next few days, “Our vision is not about where we are, but where we want to go. My vision is to retain the German league championship and qualify for the EuroLeague Final Four.”

Last season, Bayern was crowned easyCredit BBL champion, making it six titles in team history. At the continental level, a 13-21 record fell four games shy of a berth in the Play-In Showdown and marked elimination from the Playoffs for a second consecutive season.
