Genoa striker Albert Gudmundsson on Tottenham Hotspur radar

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to battle Serie A clubs for the signing of Genoa striker Albert Gudmundsson in the summer transfer window.

Albert Gudmundsson

The Iceland international, 26, was captured from AZ Alkmaar for a measly €1.5m fee in January 2022. He helped Genoa bounce back to Serie A last season and has bagged 14 goals and three assists in 33 league appearances this term. Following his sensational debut season in Serie A, the striker has caught the attention of many clubs across Europe.

Serie A champions Inter Milan had been favourites to sign Albert Gudmundsson this summer, but Napoli are trying to enter the race with an offer. Having guaranteed Champions League qualification, Juventus can now afford to table an offer for Gudmundsson and will include players Fabio Miretti and Enzo Barrenechea in an attempt to sweeten the deal.

The 26-year-old is reportedly on Tottenham’s radar, while West Ham United have also been linked with him.

Tottenham planning summer move for Albert Gudmundsson

Tottenham have struggled for goals this season and want to add a prolific goalscorer to their ranks in the forthcoming transfer window. They want someone to fill the gap left by their leading goalscorer Harry Kane, who signed for Bayern Munich last summer. Ange Postecoglou’s side may have been in a better position on the table if they had more quality in the final third of the pitch.

Interestingly, Genoa’s Albert Gudmundsson has now been linked with a move to Tottenham. The Serie A side, led by Alberto Gilardino, will not want to let Gudmundsson leave cheaply at the end of the season. The Iceland international has been one of II Grifone’s best players and his departure will weaken their attack.

Gudmundsson is versatile enough to operate out wide or in an advanced midfield position, and he would add dynamism, flexibility and goals to the current Spurs side. At 26, the Reykjavik-born forward is entering the prime stages of his career and deserves a big move to the Premier League after plundering 31 goals in 85 appearances for Genoa thus far. He could develop into a key player for Ange Postecoglou’s side if they can secure his signature.

With Son Heung-min ageing and Richarlison blowing hot and cold this term, Tottenham need more quality and depth in the final third and Gudmundsson should prove to be a smart acquisition. The Iceland forward has been linked with top Italian clubs as well, so it will be intriguing to see if Spurs can get their man this summer.
