David Ornstein: Man United’s improved £45+5m bid for Jarrad Branthwait has “no chance of being accepted” – Man United News And Transfer News

Manchester United’s second bid for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite is expected to be rejected by Everton according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

Branthwaite is one of United’s prime targets in the club’s efforts to rejuvenate their midfield department, alongside Matthijs de Ligt of Bayern Munich.

Last month, United lodged an offer worth £35m plus an additional £8m in bonuses but this was swiftly turned down by the Toffees.

Everton are believed to want £70m for the England international, who narrowly missed out on a spot on Gareth Southgate’s final 26-man squad for Euro 2024.

Sean Dyche’s side believe Branthwaite falls in the same bracket as other stars like Harry Maguire, Wesley Fofana (Chelsea) and Josko Gvardiol (Manchester City), all of whom were sold for sums in excess of £75m over the past few years.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United tabled a second and improved £45m+ £5m offer for Branthwaite. This information was also reiterated by the reliable Fabrizio Romano.

Ornstein has given an update and indicated that Everton are poised to rebuff this latest proposal and it “has no chance of being accepted.”

The Athletic journalist also wrote, “Manchester United have made an improved £45million plus £5m in add-ons offer for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. The offer falls far below the Goodison Park club’s valuation of the England international and is firmly expected to be rejected.”

Elsewhere, another source on Everton news has claimed that the Merseyside club have already turned down the second offer.

It remains to be seen whether United are put off by this setback or they go back to the drawing table and try again for the third time.

However, it’s been repeatedly mentioned that Sir Jim Ratcliffe will not be held to ransom over any transfer target and if a player proves unattainable, United will certainly move on.

Branthwaite is open to sealing a switch to Old Trafford and there’s already an agreement over personal terms between his camp and the Red Devils.
