How did Golfers Qualify for the 2024 Olympics?
There are sixty players that earn spots to compete for Olympic gold in Paris this summer for each gender. The top 15 world-ranked players as of June 24th for the women and June 17th for the men earn spots. There is a limit of four top-15 golfers per country to ensure equal representation across other countries.
The other 15 players for each tournament are the top players given at-large bids (each country is capped at 2 of these spots). Bryson DeChambeau who recently won the US Open is not eligible to play in the Paris Olympics under the current rules. The Olympic golf tournament is taking place after the British Open for the men.
How does the 2024 Olympic Golf Schedule Work?
Both the men’s and women’s tournaments are pretty straight forward. They are each four-day, four round tournaments. Standard stroke play rules are in effect. The top 3 for each tournament win medals. Xander Schauffele and Nelly Korda took home gold in 2021 and will be looking to repeat again this year. World #1, Scottie Scheffler, will be right there with them as well. The first golf event starts about a week after the opening ceremonies occur for the Paris Olympics.
Where is the 2024 Olympic Golf Tournament Taking Place?
Both the men’s and women’s Paris Olympics golf tournaments take place at Le Golf National. The course is in Guyancourt, which is a commune near Versailles, France. Le Golf National hosts the Open de France every year. It was also the location for the 2018 Ryder Cup and plays at a par 72 across 18 holes.
