(Video) Scotland coach gives Robertson update after training injury scare

Liverpool and Scotland fans would have been grimacing upon hearing of a training ground injury for Andy Robertson over the weekend.

The 30-year-old was forced out of a session for his country ahead of Euro 2024 after an accidental clash with Lawrence Shankland, prompting fears that he could join Ben Doak, Aaron Hickey and Nathan Patterson among the Scottish players missing out on the tournament due to body blows.

However, speaking to the press on Monday (via Sky Sports), Scotland assistant coach John Carver put any such worries to rest regarding the Reds left-back.

Steve Clarke’s right-hand man said of Robertson: “He’s fine. I’ve just spoken to him. It was a precaution, really. He’ll be training tomorrow. He’ll be fine and obviously at this stage we’re going to be extra cautious. He’s OK and looking forward to joining in tomorrow.

“It’s never nice, especially with the luck we’ve had lately. As soon as training was finished I popped across and had a chat with him. He’s in good form; he’s fine.”

It would’ve been devastating for Robertson and Scotland if his training ground knock were to rule him out of Euro 2024, but thankfully it seems that won’t be the case.

Let’s hope that he and his Liverpool teammates can come through the tournament unscathed and link up with Arne Slot’s squad in July as planned, raring to go when the new season begins the following month.
