Manchester United target Xavi Simons hoping to seal loan move to Barcelona – Man United News And Transfer News

A busy summer is expected across Europe with major clubs across the continent hoping to upgrade their respective squads ahead of the new season.

Manchester United are one of those in the market for new additions, with a creative player high on the list of priorities for Erik ten Hag after the team suffered from lack of goals this campaign.

PSG star Xavi Simons is one of the players linked with a move to Old Trafford after excelling in the Bundesliga this year during his loan spell with RB Leipzig.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the Dutch attacker, who is on the books at Paris Saint-Germain, could be allowed to leave the French capital but a loan exit looks the most likely option for the player.

Despite United’s interest, the 21-year-old reportedly has his heart set on a move to Barcelona with the Spanish giants keen on his signature.

Having developed at La Masia, Simons feels he has unfinished business at the Camp Nou and is waiting for the La Liga side to make their move.

The Netherlands international has made it known that Barca are his “top priority” this summer but the Catalans will have competition should he get the green light to move.

Alongside United and Barca, Leipzig, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Newcastle are also monitoring the situation and will be hoping to tempt Simons to join their respective projects.

The attacking midfielder registered 25 goal contributions last season with ten goals and 15 assists across his 43 games for Leipzig.

Simons has been a long-standing target for Ten Hag who registered his interest in the player whilst he was playing for PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie.

With 34 goal contributions during the 2022/23 season with Eindhoven, Simons’ form has been outstanding in recent years.

The Red Devils were comfortably the lowest scorers in the top eight of the Premier League last season and signing Simons would certainly add a top quality creative string to Ten Hag’s bow.

However, with the player holding out for a return to Barca, United might now be better served turning their attention to more realistic targets as INEOS begin to plot the club’s route back to the top of English football.
