MANILA, Philippines — Alex Eala and her German partner Eva Lys suffered a first-round exit in the Wimbledon women’s doubles after falling to Ingrid Martins of Brazil and Quinn Gleason of United States, 4-6, 2-6, on Thursday.

Eala’s doubles journey also came to an end after just one game after her exit in the women’s singles. She and Lys couldn’t complete a first set comeback after falling behind 2-4.

The Filipino-German duo made it a one-point game, 5-4, after a strong ninth game, but they couldn’t convert the break point in the 10th game, committing backhand and forehand errors, which handed Martins and Gleason the opening set.

Eala and Lys took Game 1 of the second set, but the Brazilian and American pair was quick to adjust, winning five consecutive games for a 5-1 spread.

The 20-year-old Eala and her partner stopped the bleeding with a comeback in the seventh game, only for Martins and Gleason to blank them in the final game to seal the win.

On Tuesday, Eala fell to defending champion Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic in her Wimbledon debut at Centre Court.

The Rafa Nadal Academy graduate reached the second round of the French Open doubles last May.
