Ruud van Nistelrooy “less and less likely” to stay at Man United once Ruben Amorim arrives – Man United News And Transfer News

It’s increasingly unlikely that Ruud van Nistelrooy will remain at Manchester United once Ruben Amorim arrives, reports Chris Wheeler of The Daily Mail.

Amorim is set to officially start work at United on November 11, with his first game being the trip to Portman Road to take on Ipswich Town two weeks later.

The Portuguese tactician will bring a number of his coaches and sports scientists with him to Old Trafford, and this has led to speculation over Van Nistelrooy’s future at the club.

Van Nistelrooy has repeatedly expressed his desire to be part of Amorim’s backroom staff, even recently joking that he had been checking his phone to see whether anyone had been in touch about the matter.

During his presser ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Leicester City, he once again insisted that he’d love to remain at Old Trafford in the capacity of an assistant coach.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana revealed that he and his teammates want the club to keep Van Nistelrooy.

However, according to Wheeler, there’s a good chance that the former Red will depart once Amorim arrives.

Wheeler spoke to Forever United TV and was asked whether anything is set to happen with Van Nistelrooy in terms of staying. The journalist replied, “It feels less and less likely right now, doesn’t it?”

“Every time we ask him about it, he’s a little bit prickly about it. It’s clear that he’s not very comfortable answering these kinds of questions.”

“He confirmed again today that he’s not spoken yet to Amorim. He didn’t know when he was going to be speaking to him… days are counting down now until he comes in.”

Wheeler added, “My mind goes back to a couple of years back with Ralf Rangnick and the same sort of comments, same sort of things he was saying when Erik ten Hag was coming in.”

“And the moment Erik came, Ralf Rangnick was long gone and it feels like a similar situation here that Ruud will see out these two games. If Amorim brings in three coaches and other staff I can’t see where Ruud van Nistelrooy fits in.”

United vs. Leicester kicks off at 14:00 BST.
