Manchester United are reportedly planning a marquee signing for incoming manager Ruben Amorim this winter.
The Red Devils recently ended their association with manager Erik ten Hag and they are close to confirming Amorim as his successor.
The Portuguese tactician could be in the dug-out in the near future and the club are already planning for January with the 39-year-old.
They are likely to back the promising manager with plenty of funds this winter such that he can sign a marquee player of his choice.
A central defender could be prioritised over any other position, considering Amorim prefers to operate with a three-man central defence.
Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro and Lisandro Martinez would be the perfect trio for Amorim, but he may want more depth in the squad.
Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans can provide that, but the trio are past their best and could be offloaded next summer.
Sporting’s Goncalo Inacio could emerge as the prime winter target.
