Manchester United and Bruno Fernandes have reached an agreement over a contract extension, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The United skipper has now effectively ended transfer speculation by agreeing to a new deal.
Fernandes had been the subject of exit rumours following United’s extremely poor 2023/24 season that saw the 20-time English champions finish in eighth place in the Premier League, their lowest-ever finish since 1989/90.
Despite the team’s struggles, the Portugal international still managed to put up very impressive numbers.
Across the 48 appearances he made across all competitions, he registered 15 goals and 13 assists. He also played a crucial role for the Red Devils as they beat Manchester City at Wembley to lift the FA Cup.
Fernandes was linked to Saudi Pro League outfits and European teams including Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Inter Milan.
His contract – which he signed in April 2022 and was worth around £220,000 a week – was set to expire in 2026 with the option of an extra year.
Romano has now revealed that the playmaker is on the brink of putting pen to paper on fresh terms that will instantly propel him to be one of the club’s top earners.
The Italian journalist wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Manchester United have reached an agreement with Bruno Fernandes to extend his contract!”
“New deal will be valid until June 2027 plus option included for further season, June 2028 — salary at top Manchester United level.”
“All set to be signed before end of the summer window.”

Fernandes and his teammates return to action on Friday when they open their Premier League campaign with a home fixture against Fulham.
