The 2025 British Open Golf schedule runs from July 17th- July 20st, 2025. The 153rd Open is being played at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland this year. The winner of the tournament will earn at least $3.1 million USD or more. The TV schedule, event specifics, and some Open facts are included for you below. 

2025 British Open Golf Schedule

The 2025 British Open golf tournament starts on Thursday, July 17th. It will be the final Major for the 2025 season. There will be 156 players in the field (just like the US Open). The American TV coverage is provided by USA Network and NBC. Peacock is the streaming partner for The Open again in 2025.

The 2025 British Open Golf TV schedule starts at 130 am on Thursday, July 17th, 2025. All of the broadcast times are based on the 2024 coverage of the British Open. They can adjust and be updated closer to the tournament. We’ll keep you updated there. NBC plans to continue airing the main portions of the third and fourth rounds of the tournament. 

British Open Golf Background

The British Open is the oldest golf Major played in the world. The tournament was founded in 1860. It was first played at Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland. Since then, it has been rotated between links golf courses located in the United Kingdom. There are 10 courses in the current rotation. St. Andrews is the only course to host the Open at least every five years. 2025 marks just the third time the tournament will take place in Northern Island. It has been played in Scotland 98 times and England 52 times.

• Tiger Woods has won the British Open three times. 2000, 2005, and 2006. 
• The Golf Champion Trophy is known as the Claret Jug.
• Jack Nicklaus named his golf course “Muirfield” in Ohio after the course where he won his first British Open in 1966.
• The winner of the British Open keeps the trophy until the next Open, at which point it must be returned. They are given a replica to keep.
• If the winner is a pro golfer, then the winner’s share of the purse is 18%. In 2023, the British Open Winner earned $3.1 million USD.
• The top 10 finishers get an entry into the following year’s tournament.
• Gary Player has played the British Open the most times with 46 appearances.
  • He also won the Open in three different decades (1959, 1968, and 1974).
• The Claret Jug is 20¾ inches tall with its base and 5½ inches in diameter at its widest (the base is 7¼ inches in diameter). It weighs roughly 5½ pounds. It’s 92.5 percent sterling silver.

The last we have heard, Tiger Woods is planning to play in the 2025 British Open golf tournament. We’ll know a lot more closer to the time based on how he performs physically in the PGA Championship and US Open Golf Tournaments. He plans to play in December 2024, then do the Majors in 2025.
