The 2024-25 Champions League schedule starts with qualifiers schedule from July 9th through August 28th, 2024. Group play begins September 17th, 2024 and runs through the UEFA Champions League Finals on May 31st, 2025. The competition has been revamped this season and we’ll see at least 10 of the 36 clubs who earn a spot that come from Germany or Italy. We have the format changes, what teams are qualified now, and more for you below.
What is the New Champions League Format?
The UEFA confirmed the new format’s most significant change from increasing the total number of teams from 32 to 36 is modifying the group stage. The teams now play a single league phase that includes all of the participating teams. Every club gets a minimum of eight Champions League stage games against eight different clubs. Four of these will be home matches and four away.
This is a change from the previous setup where a club played six games against three opponents (one home and one away). The top eight teams qualify for the knockout stages. The teams that finish 9th through 24th then move to a two-legged playoff. This is the most significant change to the Champions format since 1992.

2024-25 Champions League Preliminary and Qualify Rounds
So, the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds start in July 2024. There are three qualifying rounds with two legs in each one. The schedule for these rounds of play are below. While you’ll note some overlap with the 2024 Olympics, we don’t believe the organizers will arrange for teams to play who have players involved in the games at this point.

- August 6/7 and 13
When is the 2024-25 Champions League Group Stage Draw?
With the new format for league play this season, even more eyes will be on the Group Stage draw than normal. The draw takes place on August 29th, 2024 (after the Premier League has been going for a few weeks). Every team will face off against eight different teams. After the 8 games, the top 8 will move on to the round of 16. Teams ranked 9th through 24th then have a playoff to get into the round of 16. The losers will move on to the UEFA Europa League.
2024-25 Champions League Schedule – Group Stage
The 2024-25 Champions League schedule for the group stages gets started in September. All of the game are played on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Once the draw takes place, well come back and fill you in on the specific matchups and kickoff times when confirmed too.

2024-25 Champions League Schedule – Knockout Stage
The 2024-25 Champions league schedule for the knockout stage kicks off on February 11th, 2025. The games are set to take place on the following dates (Tuesdays and Wednesdays):

2024-25 Champions League Schedule – Semifinals and Finals
The 2024-25 Champions League schedule is down to four clubs by this point. The semifinals are two-legged and will take place:

- May 6-7, 2025
